Vocal Tips Learning How to Harmonize
Vocal Tips Learning How to Harmonize Suzy S. Its amazing what you can do with your voice! Unlike other musicians, as a singer you carry your instrument with you at all times. The opportunities to practice and perform your art are vast, as well as the ways to experiment with different styles, techniques, and of course, harmonies! Similar to a guitar player plucking one note and then building it into a chord, learning how to harmonize will create that rich, full sound when youre singing with a group or a choir. Singing harmonies, however, can be tricky. Lead lines may come easy to beginner singers, but excelling at harmonies requires an understanding of note relationships and chord formations. Finding a great voice teacher, therefore, is a must if you really want to improve. Check out this quick tutorial from singing teacher Arlys A. for an overview of one way to learn to harmonize- Now check out these additional tips from the Eclectic Musician, another great resource for singers! 1. Put on some music and start experimenting with your voice. Harmony is, essentially, multiple pitches at once. One way to proceed is to put on a favorite song and start singing whatever comes to you. Try some high notes, low notes, long tones and short tones. By definition if you are not singing the melody (i.e., the tune) you are singing harmony. 2. If you are having trouble breaking away from the melody, drop the words. Listen to the Beatles Hey Jude. During the first verse, its just Paul singing alone. In the second verse, on the word minute, the other guys come in singing ahhhhh. Think about how much easier it is to just pick a note and stick with it, rather than come up with a distinct harmony line! Still, its completely legit. You can add aaahs and la la las to just about anything to practice. 3. Learn existing harmony parts. If you have the opportunity to sing in a choir, you will learn a specific harmony part to sing against the melody (unless your part actually is the melody). This is a great way to experience how singing harmony is supposed to feel, and develop the independence to stick to your part even when someone else is singing a different part. Also, seek out the harmony parts in the music you listen to. You might start with call-and-response type songs (if youre not Gladys Knight, youre a Pip can you pick out your part?) and then try out some closer harmonies where two or more parts are moving together in the same rhythm. If its not fun, youre doing it wrong pick stuff you really like. Continue reading the article for additional tips here. Interested in Private Lessons?
Why Babysitting is the Perfect Summer Side Gig in College
Why Babysitting is the Perfect Summer Side Gig in College Image via Pexels.com Sometimes you get paid to sit Itâs not always an easy job. The childrenâs ages will definitely determine how you spend your day. You might be changing diapers or chasing hyper toddlers up and down the hallway. Or you might end up arguing with a cranky 8-year-old. However, there is one glorious activity that most children take part in: naps. In some instances, parents might ask you to put their kids down for a nap while youâre on babysitting duty. Getting them to sleep can be tricky, but once theyâre asleep, you get some free time. âItâs a job that takes a lot out of you, but it also innately understands that even the most gung-ho babysitter needs a break from time to time,â according to Thought Catalog writer Ella Ceron. Keep an eye on them, and donât take a nap yourself, but relax a little bit. If youâre allowed, you can watch some quiet T.V. Read a book. Sometimes even just sitting there is a nice, well-deserved break. There may be times when the kids just want to play on their own, too. As long as you keep checking on them, you have more chances to take a breather for a little while. Youâll never be short on references Have you ever filled out a job application and found yourself at a loss for references? You already wrote down your old coachâs name, your part-time bossâs name, and maybe even a friendâs name. Who else can fill that last spot? It canât be your own parentâs name. But, it can certainly be someone elseâs parent. Image via Pixabay.com Every time you babysit for a new family, you have one more person who can confirm that youâre a responsible worker. This is why itâs so important that you take the job seriously. Be nice to the children and be respectful to their guardians. Babysitting is a wonderful way to network in general. If youâre a medical student sitting for a doctor, then you can probably bet theyâll be willing to talk you up at the hospital. Parents will be happy to help you out in exchange for good child care. If anything, youâll at least be able to network within the babysitting world. Parents will tell their friends how much their kids love you. Before you know it, youâll have more families asking you to babysit, and a much larger network of professional contacts for later on. Skills, skills, and more skills Babysitting will teach you how to do so many new things, from everyday tasks to creative projects. If you have long shifts, youâll probably need to know how to cook some basic meals. Youâll also need to keep the kids entertained, so youâll have opportunities to get crafty (Pinterest has tons of ideas for fun activities). You can also develop skills on a professional level from babysitting. Youâre probably thinking, âHow professional can it get when Iâm hanging out with a 5-year-old?â Well, as a babysitter, you have a huge sense of responsibility. You also show a great deal of time management skills and trustworthiness. Employers look for these skills. Image via Pixabay.com If you think you might want a future career working with children, babysitting is definitely the place to start building your resume. For example, you can take CPR classes to better yourself as a babysitter, and itâll help to list CPR as a skill down the road. The American Red Cross offers babysitting classes to help you improve. Become a role model The children you babysit look up to you (literally and figuratively). Their parents will appreciate you setting a good example for them, and your job will be a whole lot easier if you get along well with the kids. Always encourage your kids to do the right thing and follow their dreams. You should let them see that youâre doing the same. Hearing a little kid say, âI want to be just like you when I grow upâ is such a confidence booster. Plus, itâs a definite win if they tell you youâre their favorite babysitter. Babysitting is the best way to make some extra cash this summer and build your character. Are you considering babysitting for your side gig? Here are 7 ways to get the job.
How To Recover From Internship Embarrassment
How To Recover From Internship Embarrassment pixabay.com Initial embarrassment may be inevitable, but prolonged embarrassment doesnât have to be. With these few easy tricks, youâll be out of your embarrassment funk in no time and ready to take on your internship again. 1. Youâre supposed to make mistakes. As an intern, youâre there to learn. And oftentimes, as much as we usually hate it, learning also means making mistakes. You canât have a perfect day, every single day. You canât possibly know and execute everything exactly right, no matter how much you try. Also, remember that the things you do will stay in peopleâs minds far less than you think it will. The embarrassing thing youâll remember for two years, everyone else will forget within the week. Just think about it. How many embarrassing moments of other people can you recall without them having told you themselves? Thatâs right, probably not that many. You may obsess over every action you take, but remember that everyone else is doing the exact same thing. As individuals, we focus on ourselves, so donât take what other people might think too seriously. 2. Think about the future. The past is easy to get caught up in. Because the past is the only thing we know, we tend to overanalyze and think endlessly about the things weâve messed up on or couldâve done differently. Of course, doing this has no purpose. You simply cannot change the past, no matter how hard you try. A better thing to do is focus on your future. The future is something you have control over and can be productive about. If you made a mistake that can be easily fixed, go out of your way to address the problem and find solutions to solve it. Perhaps you need to learn to manage your schedule or be more careful about proofreading your work; whatever it is that needs fixing, be conscious of it and plan to make changes in the future. 3. Remember the good things youâve done. The worst thing about one embarrassing experience is that it often overshadows all the other great experiences surrounding it. You couldâve been having a great, productive day at work and then your morale was totally ruined by one event. Naturally, this will happen. You canât combat the terrible feelings immediately, but what you can do is prevent them from persisting too long. Before you get way too down on yourself and think about all the terrible things youâve done in the past, try and remember all the great things. Think of the compliments youâve been given lately or the person who smiled at you on the street. Any small, nice thing to remember is far better than dwelling on the one bad thing. 4. Get organized. Being a probably young intern, you canât overcome the years of experience other people will have over you. What you can do, however, is try and get as much of your stuff as organized as possible. Nothing appears more adult-like than a well-organized person. If your embarrassment was anything project related or about handing things in late, organizing your life will make all the difference. I recommend getting some sort of planner and also making a spreadsheet. Doing this will help you prioritize what needs to be done and when. This makes it much easier on you to stay on top of things and tackle projects because you donât have to remember it all. You can simply look it up in your planner or on your computer. Such an easy fix to combat those office mistakes. 5. Listen to otherâs stories. Like I said earlier, be aware that others will remember their terrible embarrassments before theyâll remember yours. If youâre still feeling really self-conscious about it, try bringing it up to others. I know, it seems counter intuitive, but it may spark a conversation with your other coworkers about the embarrassing things they did as an intern or maybe even as an adult now! Once you get the ball rolling, youâll be surprised at how many hilarious and downright awful things that have happened. Often, these stories will make you realize that your embarrassment pales in comparison to what has happened to others. Your coworkers will also probably provide needed support and encouragement to get you through. Hopefully by now youâre starting to realize that everyone gets overly dramatic over a little embarrassment. You are certainly not alone. However, the sooner you realize that itâs no big deal, the sooner you can start laughing about it. Who knows, this might even turn into one of your best stories to tell!

My Week 6 Progress Learning Korean
My Week 6 Progress Learning Korean Amelia from the UK is currently taking the italki World Cup Language Challenge to learn Korean. She uploaded a Public Video Pledge and even started a personal blog site to help motivate her Hallyu to ???. We were so impressed with her efforts that we asked if we could repost what she had written on her personal blog as she gives weekly updates on her progress. Check out her latest post reposted with permission. Hi Everyone, Sorry, I disappeared off the radar for a bit there. Unfortunately, busy got even more busy and Iâve hardly been able to escape the office the last couple of weeks. Given the choice between writing a blog about studying Korean or actually studying it, I thought Iâd better focus on the second option! Thatâs also the reason why thereâs no video this weekâ¦. Also, last week I got a little behind for my usual schedule. I had to cancel one lesson because I was still at work, and then one of my teachers had to cancel as she was ill. So last week, I only did 2 hours. Luckily I have been ahead pretty much all the time so Iâm on about 21 hours now, which means I should finish the challenge just ahead of schedule. Iâm glad I front-loaded it a bit otherwise I would have been a bit worried about finishing! My sentences are gradually getting a bit longer, and Rosa is making me practice different contexts with all the new vocab I am learning. Iâve started to introduce clauses such as for~, ~which, ~ that I had wanted to ~, because of ~ I will ~ etc. etc. They need more practice to get past two clauses but at least it is allowing me to vary my structures a little! Iâve even got to the stage of having multiple ways to say the same thing. There are two bits that Iâm still finding a little challenging at the moment. One is the formal language for seniors, which has different particles and verb endings (and even different verbs for some words!). Its just because I donât hear it so naturally as the semi-formal tone that most beginners start with. The other bit that I am still slow to wrap my brain around is the way of transforming verbs into nouns / adjectives. The grammar is relatively simple but getting my brain to think in the right way before embarking on a sentence is still going to take a little while! On an unrelated note, my enthusiasm for my terrible beginners Korean has led to me being categorised as a volunteer at the conversational meetup group I go to on Fridays. In practice, this just means being a spare pair of hands whenever they need me but itâs nice to have integrated so quickly into the community around language learning ??
